Song of the Day: The Boswell Sisters - Everybody Loves My Baby

I put this song on in the store the other day and it made an old man really happy. In other news: I am a very boring human being.

Trust Your Children - Mississippi Tape Series

Over at Rootstrata they have been gallantly uploading the entire Mississippi Records Tape Series. Putting this tape of "difficult childrens music" on my iPod is the best excuse I've found to get outside today. Extra points for including my favorite Jonathan Richman track "Rockin' Rollin' Leprechaun".

On a side note: Mississippi Records has become pretty much my entire reason for living.

Get it here!

Song of the Day: Lower Dens - Tea Lights

As I type this it's gray and gloomy outside, hopefully by the time it goes up it won't suddenly be sunny and warm or this will seem terribly out of place. Or maybe not. Sometimes I get so caught up in finding obscure music I've never heard before that I forget that is so much great stuff currently being made.

update: Evidently that was it took for the storm to pass.

Song of the Day: Rev. Utah Smith - Take a Trip

Sometimes I feel envious of people who get to write songs about Jesus. As a barely Jew I find this stuff every bit as exotic as that Turkish psychbeat compilation. This is from the excellent Life is a Problem... But There is Hope album put out by Mississippi Records

Song of the Day: Nothing to be Done - The Pastels

This is the feeling today. I think the Pastels would have been a pretty fun band to be in. I think a lot of things.

Song of the Day: Dando Stark - Coming Home To Me

Maybe it's just me, but I swear this guy's voice makes everything sound like a pastiche song from the Mighty Boosh. I mean let's be honest here. Also Dando Stark could be one of the worst band names I've ever encountered. Which is to say I love this.

Song of the Day: Droids - The Force

The weirdest part of this is that it claims to be from 1976, which is a year before star wars came out. Is this actually possible? the other weirdest part of this is the everything.
